On August 12, former St. Louis Fed President Bullard stated that he spoke with Bessent last week regarding the possibility of taking over as chair of the Fed and is willing to act according to the wishes of U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent. If the Fed's goal is to maintain stable, low inflation and the independence of the Fed is respected, he is willing to accept the position of Fed chair.
